Could A Vencedora be about to live again? The venerated Macanese restaurant brought its shutters down last year, supposedly permanently, but a photo published on Facebook yesterday is generating speculation about a possible reopening.
The photo shows the storefront with multiple signs in Chinese and English reading “opening soon,” and has taken local diners by complete surprise.
No public announcements have been made as to when or if the iconic restaurant will reopen, or whether it is now under new management, or if a completely new restaurant will occupy the location on Rua do Campo. However, in the photograph A Vencedora’s frontage and signage remain intact, suggesting that its new occupier is not planning to make any drastic changes.

Established in 1918, A Vencedora was a long-running family business managed by third-generation owners Lam Kok Lon and Lam Kok Veng. After more than 40 years in the business, the Lam brothers decided to retire and close the restaurant for good due to the lack of a successor.
The restaurant’s closure was closely followed by local media, with a considerable number of customers revisiting the establishment prior to its shuttering.
Some of the dishes that the restaurant served included tried and true Macanese and Portuguese dishes such as minchi, oxtail soup and bacalhau.
