Job description

Macao News has an opening for a full-time editor-in-chief position. Interested applicants should be passionate about working in a fast-paced breaking news environment where they would have an opportunity to curate our daily news reports and coverage, as well as influence future editorial strategies. The role requires strong editing skills at all stages of production, as well as experience working both independently and collaboratively. It would be ideal for a self-motivated, enterprising individual who works calmly under pressure, communicates clearly, and looks forward to developing new ideas and strategies.


  • Lead all aspects of daily news coverage on Macao News, including team management and organisation
  • Deliver high-impact scoops and in-depth reporting
  • Handle daily news editing and feature stories as needed
  • Write SEO-friendly web headlines, link text and slug words
  • Plan advanced coverage of major events and secure key interviews
  • Stay current on new story formats and digital innovations
  • Identify ways to improve efficiency and enhance our work   


  • Minimum 10 years experience in journalism and digital media
  • Native English speaker with a keen understanding of Chinese society and culture (Preferably someone who has lived or visited Macao many times)
  • Fluent in one of Macao’s official languages: Chinese or Portuguese 
  • Subediting and production experience (print and digital)
  • Demonstrated ability to write on range of subject areas, from politics to finance and arts and culture
  • Experience using WordPress
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Digitally savvy (ability to analyse data, find sources, access research, and harness social media)
