Mozambican Consul General Rafael Marques said on Tuesday he would like to see more tourism-related co-operation between his country and Macau.

Marques made the comments while speaking to reporters after a press conference at Grand Lapa about the southeast African nation’s food festival which begins tomorrow and runs until June 28 at the hotel.

“Macau is very experienced in tourism, we would like to see tourism [co-operation] with Macau,” Marques said. “There are a lot of tourists from mainland China, they can travel to Mozambique and spend time there and so we need more infrastructure in tourism,” the diplomat added.

Besides tourism, according to Marques, there is already a local company that is building public housing units in Mozambique.

In addition, Marques highlighted ongoing co-operation projects between Macau and Mozambique in the areas of professional training, finance and education.

Marques pointed out that a number of construction companies from mainland China have set up business operations in Mozambique, namely for infrastructure and public housing projects. Marques said he would like to see even more companies from the mainland to build road and electricity networks in his country, and introduce new technology for agriculture to Mozambique.
