Macao’s having a better than predicted Golden Week, with the daily average of visitor arrivals during the first four days of the holidays exceeding 29,000.
More than 37,000 arrivals were recorded on National Day, indicating the second highest daily visitor arrivals so far this year, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) noted.
According to the MGTO, 117,189 visitor arrivals were recorded in the first four days of the Golden Week, with a daily average of 29,297, which increased by 2,172.8 per cent compared with the National Day Golden Week last year with a daily average of a mere 1,289 tourists entering Macao.
The MGTO pointed out that the daily average of 29,297 visitor arrivals between October 1-4 also shows an increase of 49.5 per cent compared with the daily average of 19,601 visitor arrivals last month.
It’s been a better week for hotels too. The average occupancy rate during the first three days of the National Day Golden Week from October 1-3 rose year-on-year by 32.5 percentage points to 80.6 per cent. The MGTO added that the average hotel room rate was MOP 957.7, up 23.9 per cent from the average room rate of the first three days of the National Day Golden Week last year.
While the figures are encouraging, they pale in comparison to October 2019, before the pandemic struck, when arrivals averaged more than 100,000 per day.
The National Day Golden Week runs through tomorrow, The Macau Post Daily reported.
