Macau, China, 16 May – Macau’s hospitality industry recorded 1.92 million guests in the first quarter, up 1.9 percent on the same period of last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Hotels’ average guestroom occupancy rate stood at 81 percent in the first three month, up 1.9 percent year-on-year.

Hotel guests accounted for just 29.8 percent of visitor arrivals in the first quarter, The Macau Post Daily pointed out.

Macau logged 6.43 million visitor arrivals between January and March, up 5.2 percent year-on-year.

At the end of March , the total number of guestrooms rose by 5.1 percent year-on-year to 20,129 rooms. It was the first time that the number of guestrooms topped the 20,000 threshold. 5-star hotels accounted for 59.8 percent of the total number of guestrooms.

The number of guests rose six percent year-on-year to 677,869 in March. Mainlanders and Hong Kong citizens accounted for 55.1 percent and 18 percent of the total number of guests, respectively.

At the end of March, Macau ’s population amounted to 556,800.

Hotel guests’ average length remained basically unchanged at just 1.5 nights.(MacauNews/Tourism)
