Hotel guests in Macau rise 20 per cent in September

Macau’s 107 hotels and guesthouses recorded 1.02 million guests in September, up 20.2 perc ent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced on Monday.

Guests from the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 62.8 per cent, 12.2 per cent and 4.6 per cent respectively, up 20.9 per  cent, 12.5 per cent and 40.6 per cent respectively.

The number of guests from South Korea leapt 75.5 per cent to 29,000.

Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged year-on-year at 1.4 nights.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses amounted to 82.1 per cent in September, up 3.7 percentage points year-on-year. Four-star hotels enjoyed the highest average occupancy rate, at 86.5 per cent, up 10.4 percentage points from a year earlier.

The hospitality industry’s number of guestrooms rose 20.7 per cent year-on-year to 36,000 at the end of September.

Guestrooms in 3-star hotels jumped 116.9 per cent year-on-year to 5,500.

In the first nine months of the year, the hospitality industry recorded 8.58 million guests, up 12.9 per cent year-on-year.
