The Public Security Police (PSP) announced in a statement that they recorded 556,193 visitor arrivals during the four-day Easter holiday period from Good Friday to Easter Monday, a 39.3 percent increase compared to the corresponding period last year.
The previous four-day Easter holiday period was between March 30 and April 2, 2018, according to the statement.
This time, the police recorded some 2.46 million entries and exits at the city’s eight border checkpoints during the four-day period – 1,240,382 entries and 1,221,366 exits, the statement said.
The entry and exit figures announced by the Public Security Police, who run the city’s immigration service, comprise local residents, visitors, non-resident workers and non-local students enrolled in Macau.
During the four-day Easter period, the police recorded 1,685,405 entries and exits at the Barrier Gate checkpoint, 275,342 at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) checkpoint, 144,954 at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, 112,015 at the airport, 111,983 at the Lotus Flower Bridge checkpoint, 105,398 at the Taipa Ferry Terminal, and 26,651 at the Zhuhai Macau Cross-border Industrial Zone checkpoint in Ilha Verde. No entries and exists were recorded at the Inner Harbour Ferry Terminal – whose normal operations have been suspended for several years – during the four day period.
The number of entries and exits at the Barrier Gate checkpoint hit a record high of 467,000 on April 6, replacing the previous record on March 16, the police have said. According to previous media reports, the police recorded 462,500 entries and exits at the city’s busiest checkpoint on March 16.
The Gongbei border checkpoint – the mainland’s counterpart of Macau’s Barrier Gate checkpoint – is the nation’s busiest land border checkpoint.(Macaunews)
