Macau recorded 7.07 million visitor arrivals in the first quarter, an increase of just 1.9 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced Tuesday.
Mainlanders, Hongkongers and Guangdong residents – Macau’s top three visitor segments – accounted for 62.4 percent, 24.4 percent and 18.4 percent of all arrivals respectively.
Some 44.2 percent of all mainland visitors entered Macau on the individual visit scheme. A total of 120,059 Shanghai residents visited Macau in the first quarter.
Same-day visitors made up 51.9 percent of the city’s total number of arrivals.
In the first quarter 42,854 US citizens, 28,802 Australians, 17,742 Canadians, 14,317 UK citizens, 9,867 French, 8,874 Russians and 7,368 Germans visited Macau.
In March, the number of visitor arrivals rose 1.6 percent year-on-year to 2.38 million.
The number of mainland visitors dropped 1.1 percent year-on-year to 1.43 million last month.(macaunews)
