Moves are underway to secure a parcel of territory in Zhuhai for Macao’s most ambitious Light Rail Transit (LRT) line yet, TDM reports.
On Monday, a proposal that Macao formally take over a small area of land and sea southeast of the Border Gate was submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
Deputy director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, Wang Linggui, said this would be used to construct the 7.7 kilometre East Line – set to be completed by 2028.

The V-shaped part of Zhuhai in question is about 3,700 square metres in size, more than half of which is sea.
The East Line will enable passengers to journey between the Border Gate, New Urban Zone A and Taipa by train. Construction has been split into northern and southern sections and is scheduled for completion in 2028.
Two other lines will be ready before then – the 1.6-kilometre Seac Pai Van Line, with completion tentatively marked for February 2024, and the 2.4-kilometre Hengqin Line, which should also be finished next year.
