A male non-resident worker was arrested on Tuesday for using his smartphone to film an upskirt video of a local woman, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Choi Iok Kin said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
The suspect surnamed Wang, who is in his forties, told the police that he works as a restaurant helper in a hotel in Cotai.
According to Choi, a woman in her thirties reported to the police last Thursday morning that she felt something touch her thigh when she was on the escalator on the footbridge in Rua da Baía de Nossa Senhora de Esperança in Taipa. She turned around to see what it was and discovered Wang was using his smartphone to film an upskirt video. The victim was shocked and before she was able to question the suspect, he ran away. The victim went in pursuit of the suspect but failed to catch him and reported the case to the police the following day.
Thanks to CCTV footage, PSP officers identified Wang and arrested him at the restaurant where he works on Tuesday. Wang confessed that he was attracted by the victim’s clothing and committed the crime. He told the police that he had been watching the video from time to time. The police also discovered four more similar videos in his smartphone. Wang admitted that the videos were taken in the Northern district, but he forgot the day and location the videos were taken.
Wang was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) on Wednesday, facing an invasion of privacy charge, according to Choi.
