Covid-19 has dealt another blow to the cultural life of Macao, forcing the cancellation of a concert by Long Yu with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra at the 34th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF).
The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said the cancellation was due to Covid-19 pandemic prevention and control measures in mainland China which meant that the orchestra was unable to visit Macao.
However, the FIMM-tastic Music and Movie Night will be held at S. Domingos Church tomorrow, showing the recorded programme English Renaissance Polyphony – a survey by The Tallis Scholars as scheduled, the bureau said.
The Tallis Scholars is a British professional early music vocal ensemble normally consisting of two singers per part, with a core group of 10 singers.
The bureau noted that the Contemporary Meets Tradition concert by the Cantonese Music Assembly will be held on 29 October. The young performers of Chinese music from the Greater Bay Area will deliver a raft of Cantonese music pieces and the premiere in Macao of the Cantonese music composition Sunset Clouds in Autumn.
There will also be a workshop and MIMF extension activity, Cantonese Music Sifoguk, or a private music gathering, which will introduce Cantonese music and related instruments’ characteristics, while participants will also be invited to perform and exchange ideas with the Cantonese Music Assembly’s musicians.
The bureau said that the maximum indoor capacity for the MIMF programmes is limited to 75 per cent, and full pandemic precautions will be mandatory.
Finally, IC President Leong Wai Man announced that the 25th Lusofonia Festival will take place on 28-30 October at the Taipa Houses, The Macau Post Daily reported.
