Macau’s merchandise imports fell 44.1 per cent to MOP 3.84 billion (US$481 million) last month, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said on Thursday.
According to a statement by the bureau, imports of gold jewellery, handbags and wallets, and watches dropped 92.2 per cent, 76.1 per cent and 69.6 per cent respectively.
Total merchandise exports – comprising exports and re-exports – dropped 24.8 per cent to MOP 716 million. Re-exports accounted for 88 per cent of the total exports.
In the first four months of the year, merchandise imports declined 28.1 per cent year-on-year to MOP 20.33 billion. Merchandise exports fell 16.0 per cent to MOP 3.86 billion between January and April.
