China and Greece emerge victorious in the ISF World School Basketball Championship

The Chinese girls’ basketball team won gold, with France and New Zealand earning silver and bronze, while Greece topped the boy’s division
  • The tournament featured 37 teams from 20 nations and territories competing in 117 matches

The ISF World School Basketball Championship held its award and closing ceremony yesterday at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion, with the top prizes being presented to the Chinese girls’ team and the Greek boys’ team, according to a statement

The Chinese team bagged gold after defeating the runner-up France 72 to 65. New Zealand, meanwhile, came in at third place.  Speaking to TDM on the sidelines of the ceremony, Wang Siqi, a member of the Chinese girls’ team, said the French team were tough opponents. 

“They kept making improvements after every game,” said Wang. “Containing their momentum was crucial.”

For the boys’ event, Greece earned first place by beating France 74 to 63, with Turkey collecting a bronze medal. A player from the Greek team told TDM that it was “one of the best competitions of my life.”

The Macao girls’ and boys’ basketball teams ranked in 11th and 10th place respectively. 

Taking place between 23 June and 3 July 2024, the ISF World School Basketball Championship featured 37 teams from 20 nations and territories competing in 117 matches. 

Matches were open to the public and were live broadcasted online, with the total viewership rate totalling more than 60,000. 

The countries and regions that took part in this year’s edition of the event included: Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Macao, Mexico, Mongolia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Chinese Taipei, Turkey and Urganda.
