Macao is hosting the International Cities of Gastronomy Carnival next month

The 10-day event will feature around 100 food stalls, cooking demonstrations and discussions with culinary professionals.

The International Cities of Gastronomy Carnival is due to take place at the Macau Fisherman’s Wharf from 14 to 23 June, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement yesterday. 

Over the course of ten days, the event will showcase cuisine from major gastronomic cities in mainland China and Asia. An International Gastronomy Promenade, with around 100 food stalls, and a City of Gastronomy Showcase featuring roughly 60 cooking demonstrations, will be part of the programme.

An International Gastronomy Forum is also scheduled to be held on 17 June, serving as a platform for culinary experts and industry professionals to discuss issues relating to food and cooking.

Organisers expect around 25,000 visitors to attend each day.

During a press conference held yesterday, the deputy head of the MGTO, Ricky Hoi, invited members of the local catering sector to take part in the event by registering as vendors in the International Gastronomy Promenade. He said it would “jointly showcase the charm and potential of Macao as a City of Gastronomy.” 

Out of the 100 stalls that will be on the promenade, 54 will be allocated to Macao-based caterers, who will not be charged for participating. The remaining spots will be reserved for mainland and Southeast Asian participants, as well as the six concessionaires. Applications for vendors are now open, with a deadline set for 14 May. 

Apart from the food-based events, the festival will also incorporate a waterfront bar area, live performances and games. 

In recent years, Macao has been marketing itself as a Creative City of Gastronomy, a title that it received from UNESCO back in 2018.
