An exhibition entitled “Selected Works 2020” by graduates of the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ Department of Creative Industries is being held at Creative Macau – Centre for Creative Industries.
According to information provided by Creative Macau, the exhibition aims to showcase the best projects by the bachelor’s degree graduates in Architectural Studies, Communication and Media, Design and Fashion Design for the academic year 2019/20. The exhibit features five architecture projects, five transmedia projects, two product designs, and three fashion collections.
According to the information released on the Creative Macau website, graduates from the Bachelor of Architectural Studies developed innovative green architecture concepts for the Ilha Verde neighbourhood. Working under the theme “Green Link”, they started by identifying the districts’ problems and opportunities as well as re-imagined its urban fabric with a new conceptual master plan, and innovative approaches to architecture that explored a greener lifestyle, promoting social equity and environmental health.
The selected individual projects have materialised the key ideas of the master plan and showcase the originality of each graduate. They follow a diverse range of programmes such as a library, a mixed-use building and a community centre, creating innovative new prototypes for a greener Macao, according to the information.
The central theme of the Bachelor of Communication and Media students work is to bring what they imagined to life through different, creatively diverse mediums such as the capture of life through photography, involving creative ideas thought up through graphic design and many more. Their projects explore many different topics ranging from re-imagining the landscapes of Macao to childhood nostalgia. Their challenge was to find a way through various media to share a message that was relevant to each of them, according to the information.
Students of the Bachelor of Design focused their final graduation project under the theme “Duality” on consistent and innovative design of two products. One design focused on updating the recycling system stations in Macao, presenting not only a more attractive look with touch-free apertures but also a more robust design so that the local community can easily identify them as sustainable recycling stations. The other is a furniture design focused on origami-style furnishings with a trendy, clean and sturdy-feeling to be used in modern botanic-style home design, according to the information.
The students of Bachelor of Fashion Design proposed three radical concepts for Macao’s fashion, with the theme “Transparency”, showcasing stylish and innovative collections. They brought together diverse projects in the areas of fashion design showing their creativity, talent and strategy for Macao’s new fashion outlooks. Their collections also took into account the manipulation of modern materials and fabrics resorting to the use of new technologies like laser-cut and 3D printing, according to the information.
The exhibition is on until November 21 at Creative Macau on the ground floor of the Macao Cultural Centre complex in Avenida Xian Xing Hai from Monday to Saturday except Sundays and public holidays from 2 pm to 7 pm.
