The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) said in a statement Tuesday that it has organised a delegation of Macau’s travel trade to this week’s 1st China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai
According to the statement, MGTO officials and travel trade representatives together are showcasing Macau’s East-meets-West culture, gastronomy and tourism products, facilities and services at the mega-expo, apart from highlighting the positioning of the special administrative region as a world centre of tourism and leisure.
Consisting of an exhibition and a forum, the CIIE is the world’s first import-themed exhibition at national level. President Xi Jinping held a keynote address at the expo’s opening ceremony on Monday.
MGTO set up its own booth in the CIIE exhibition zone, while MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes participated in the CIIE forum’s parallel session on the topic “trade and opening” earlier this week.
In the CIIEE exhibition zone for “Trade in Services – Tourism Service”, MGTO runs a 180-square-metre booth themed “Experience Macau Your Own Style”.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes and Deputy Director Cheng Wai Tong visited the MGTO booth and tourism enterprises and met guests, industry delegates from Macau and other CIIE participants earlier this week, the statement said.
“MGTO believes that with the scale and level of the CIIE, MGTO can leverage the expo to effectively raise Macau’s international profile and promote Macau’s goal to develop into a world centre of tourism and leisure, besides enhancing exchanges and cooperation between Macau’s travel trade and its counterparts in other parts of the world, especially enterprises along the Belt and Road” (B&R), the statement said.
The expo ends on Saturday. Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On and other senior local government officials including Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac and Chui’s chief-of-cabinet O Lam attended Monday’s opening ceremony.
