Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said she hoped that the number of visitor arrivals this year would be similar to last year’s – 31.5 million.
She expressed the hope on the sidelines of a South Korean culture and tourism promotion event next to Macau Tower. She was a guest at the Korea Week event.
Asked by reporters about her prediction of the number of visitor arrivals this year, Senna Fernandes said she believed the number of visitor arrivals this year would not reach last year’s.
“The number of visitor arrivals recorded in the first nine months of this year fell by 2.9 percent compared to the same period last year… it’s not a huge decrease. However, I hope the number of visitor arrivals this year will be similar to last year’s,” she said.
She also said due to the effect of the outbreak of the Middle East Respiratory Virus (MERS) early this year the number of South Korean visitor arrivals will be down from last year’s.
Senna Fernandes said that the number of visitor arrivals from South Korea last year reached 500,000, adding that her bureau would continue tourism promotion activities in South Korea next year.
She also said that her bureau had commissioned a research company to carry out a study on the city’s eight walking tour routes covering various locations, adding the study was scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
