Macau, China, 14 Jul – The 20th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will be held on September with ten national

Macau, China, 14 Jul – The 20th Macau International Fireworks Display Contest will be held on September with ten national teams, announced Monday Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, director of Macau Government Tourism Office.

Costa Antunes said that the contest will be held on September 1,14,20 and 27 as well on Chinese National Day on October 1st.

This year´s event will bring  to Macau 10 national teams some of wich have already been part of previous contests, namely Portugal, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and China.

Japan´s team is a two time champion.

The portuguese team Macedo and Companhia Pirotecnica is the current Guiness World  Records holder of the wrold´s largest foireworks display in Funchal, capital of Madeira island in 2006.

“The contest on 14th September coincides with this year´s celebrations of Mid-Autumn Festival a popular chinese celebration that falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month”, Costa Antunes said.

The government is subsidising the participants with US$ 20,000.The winner will receive US$ 8,000.(macaunews)
