The “Macao Week in Shanghai” roadshow is offering RMB 110 million (around US$17 million) on air tickets, hotel accommodation, dining and other tourism products to attract visitors to come to Macao.
The promotional tour organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) was unveiled on Thursday and presided over by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng.
The roadshow, which will last until 7 June, is to promote Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination.
Jointly presented by MGTO, the “Macao Week in Shanghai – Taste of Macao Food Promotion” will present signature dishes by Head Chefs Tiago Reis and Lou Kam Meng from MGM Macao at the Café Bellagio of the hotel Bellagio in Shanghai. The event seeks to introduce Macanese and Portuguese dishes to Shanghai residents. Macao has been designated as a Creative City of Gastronomy since 2017.
During the opening ceremony of the Macao Week, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lei Wai Nong said he hoped that the mega roadshow could highlight the different aspects of Macao’s tourism. He also pointed out that Macao plays an important role in the Greater Bay Area, therefore he hoped that the event could help Macao better integrate with mainland cities.
Although the number of tourists have decreased over the past few days due to the Covid-19 infections in the Guangdong province, 50,000 tourists are still visiting Macao on a daily basis.
