Macau recorded 19.57 million visitor arrivals in the first eight months of this year, an increase of 4.7 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said Monday.
Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 63.6 and 23.5 percent of all visitor arrivals respectively.
Guangdong residents accounted for 28.4 percent of all visitor arrivals. About 27.5 percent of all visitors from the mainland entered Macau under the individual visit scheme (IVS). The remainder visited Macau as members of tour groups.
Same-day visitors accounted for 51.2 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in the eight-month period.
Among visitors from outside Asia, only the US segment exceeded 100,000 in the January-August period, when 115,337 US citizens visited Macau.
In August, the number of visitors rose 7.1 percent year-on-year to 2.87 million – a daily average of 92,615.(macaunews)
