Macau, China, Oct 22 – The relationship between Macau and Taiwan will enter a new phase of development, said Wednesday the Chief Executive, Edmund Ho Hau Wah, in his speech Wednesday at the opening ceremony of a symposium on Macau-Taiwan relations.
Edmund Ho announces that the government of Macau Special Administrative Region will strengthen, in the future, measures to promote economic cultural and social exchanges with Taiwan in various areas that might help the development of Macau.
The Chief Executive pointed out at the same time that Macau in its role as a bridge between the two sides of the strait has taken a consistently peaceful and opens a channel to ensure barrier-free and total fluid exchange.
Macau’s Chief Executive also said during the symposium that "the relationship between Macau and Taiwan will also enter a new phase of development" in the context of the relations between Mainland China and Taiwan.
Meanwhile the Chinese mainland’s Taiwan affairs chief Wang Yi Wednesday acknowledged Macau’s special role in pushing forward development of mainland-Taiwan ties.
He promised to support the government of Macau Special Administrative Region to properly handle Taiwan affairs and give support to various circles in the region to promote non-government Macau-Taiwan exchanges and cooperation.
Wang, director of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee also urged to cherish the hard-won improved relations between the two sides across the Taiwan Strait, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency.
"At present, cross-Strait relations have embarked on the track of peaceful development," he said. "Although we’ll encounter obstruction and challenges in the future, the tendency of peaceful development couldn’t be blocked or reversed."
As long as compatriots on both sides adhere to the correct orientation, make concerted efforts, and get rid of disturbance, the two sides could continue to create new momentum for peaceful development of ties, he said.
