The government will try its best to preserve Macau’s cultural heritage for every generation, Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On pledged in an audio message released on his official website on Tuesday, admitting that there was room for improvement in revitalizing the city’s historic buildings.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the inscription of the “Historic Centre of Macau” on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005.

“I truly feel that Macau residents’ attention to, and their sense of, cultural heritage protection, is increasing… it indicates residents’ care and love for their beautiful home,” Chui said, adding his government would advance the preservation of Macau’s cultural heritage.

In the message, Chui reviewed the application to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the inscription a decade ago, when he was the city’s secretary for social affairs and culture.

Chui also said the inscription was inseparable from the support by the central government and experts all over the world.
