The Macau government confirmed today the city’s 44th novel coronavirus (COVID-19) case, the husband of the 40th case and father of the 41st case.
According to a statement by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, the patient is a 52-year-old unemployed male Macau resident who was living in the United Kingdom.
He and five of his family members (including the 40th and 41st cases) departed from London in the United Kingdom on March 26 aboard Cathay Pacific flight CX250 (seat 22K), and arrived in Hong Kong in the afternoon of the 27th. That same day, they took the chartered bus arranged by the Macau Tourism Crisis Management Office and returned to Macau via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge.
According to Macau’s quarantine measures at that time, they were arranged for quarantine and medical observation at Royal Dragon Hotel. His wife and son’s nasopharyngeal swab test samples came back positive on the 31st and both were diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
The 44th patient was sent to the temporary isolation centre for medical observation that same day because he was listed as a close contact. The results of both nasopharyngeal swab test samples on March 31 and April 1 were negative for the novel coronavirus. He had a sore throat and cough on April 2, as well as fever with body aches on the evening of the 3rd.
On the 5th, his nasopharyngeal swab test sample was positive and he was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. The patient has been admitted to the isolation ward of Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre for treatment. His current situation is normal.
Macau’s 44 confirmed COVID-19 cases includes 10 patients – seven tourists from Wuhan and three locals – who have been discharged from hospital. The other 34 cases, all of them imported, have been confirmed since March 15.
Macau’s first novel coronavirus case was registered on January 22.
