Registration for the 2025 Caritas Macau Charity Run opens tomorrow, 1 August, and will remain open until 10 September. Scheduled for 28 September at the University of Macau, this year’s run is the ninth in the fundraising series.

According to Caritas, more than 3 million patacas (roughly US$371,000) have been raised in the past eight years. This year, funds will be directed toward projects such as a new nursing home and support for the “We Connect” service. Launched at the end of last year, the service provides elderly individuals with companionship, daily care, and health services through the dispatch of caregivers to their homes or designated locations.

Charity run participants can choose from several categories, including a 5-kilometre run, 10-kilometre run, a 10-kilometre team relay race and a 1.6-kilometre inclusive run. The latter is open to everyone, including families, people with disabilities, and walkers. There is also an off-site option that allows those unable to attend in person to participate by completing the designated running distance at any time and location on 28 September.

Entry fees are set at 160 patacas for adults, and 100 patacas for children and teenagers. The entry fee for each relay team is 800 patacas.

The event aims to attract 3,000 participants, with awards for top finishers and a special Most Popular Team Award to encourage group participation. Registration is available online via the ICBC Macau mobile banking app or at four designated locations across the city: Centro de Serviços Integrados de Apoio à Família, the Caritas Library, Centro Pastoral Da Areia Preta in Macao and Centro de Cuidados Especiais Longevidade in Taipa.

The charity run last year attracted 2,000 participants and raised approximately 640,000 patacas (just over US$79,000).
