Police arrested a mainland Chinese man who was wandering around naked outside the Barrier Gate checkpoint yesterday afternoon.
The Public Security Police (PSP) said that after receiving a report at 4 pm officers intercepted the man and asked him to put on his clothes. The PSP did not divulge whether the man, who is in his fifties and holds a mainland travel permit, appeared to be intoxicated or suffering from mental health problems or whether he was simply reacting to the heat.
The man faces a charge of violating the General Regulations Governing Public Places. Anyone found naked in public faces a fine of MOP 600, The Macau Post Daily reported.
The city has suffered record temperatures this week, with the thermometer hitting 37 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The Yellow hot weather alert issued by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau remains in force.
