Eight young hospitality industry workers have made it into the finals of this year’s Young Chef Young Waiter (YCYW) Macao competition.

The finals will be held next month and the winners will go on to compete in the international competition in Monaco in November.

The young chef finalists are: William Wang Weicheng (Wynn Macau); Man, Cheang Nga Man (Wynn Palace); Nick Abuel (Four Seasons); and Daniel Lau (MGM Cotai).

The young waiter finalists are: Bobo Mak Chi Cheng (Wynn Macau); Kate Lei Ka Kei (Wynn Palace); Mondass Velautham (Wynn Palace); and Chan Lok Hang (Melco).

YCYW Macao aims to uncover the very best young talent in the industry and help equip them with relevant skills, current knowledge and the network needed to succeed in the world of hospitality. The competition has a modern approach that focuses on tasks and criteria that are challenging, educational and fun.

The finalists were chosen by Worldchefs Certified International Judge Perry Yuen and Edwy Tam, Coordinator for Food and Beverage Programmes at the Macao Institute For Tourism Studies, and eight other leading figures in the hospitality industry.

The finals will be held at SW Steakhouse, Wynn Palace and the award ceremony will take place at the Wynn Palace Grand Theatre on 18 October.

The winners will go on to compete in the spectacular World YCYW Final in Monaco on 15-16 November.

The winning chef from Macao will design a menu showcasing the city’s celebrated dishes to an internationally acclaimed judging panel headed up by Michelin-starred Chef Jason Atherton.

The winning chef and waiter will be announced during an Olympic-style celebration attended by Prince Albert II at The Maybourne Riviera in Monaco.
