The construction worker seriously hurt in an accident on a Cotai building site on Sunday succumbed to his injuries yesterday.
The Judiciary Police (PJ) said that they were notified by the Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre at 11 am yesterday that the 35-year-old non-resident worker (NRW), surnamed Zhou, who sustained a chest contusion on the Galaxy Macau Phase 4 construction site, died after emergency treatment earlier in the day.
The PJ noted that Zhou was operating a cherry picker on the site at 12:30 pm on Sunday when he was crushed between the machine and a crossbeam. His workmate immediately called for help and his superior alerted the police.
Zhou’s workmates cut the cherry picker’s lifting arm and freed him before Fire Services paramedics arrived at the scene. As Zhou was not breathing and had no sign of a heartbeat, he was immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
At 10:45 am yesterday Zhou’s condition suddenly deteriorated, and he died shortly afterwards.
According to a preliminary examination, Zhou sustained multiple abrasions to the neck, chest and right upper arm, as well as fractures to the thoracic vertebrae.
The PJ has classified the case as “dead body found”. The exact cause of death still needed to be confirmed by a forensic examination, The Macau Post Daily reported.
