Peking Union Medical College Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Beijing, is negotiating with the Macao government to manage the Islands’ future new public hospital, according to Rádio Macau.
Last week the director of the Health Bureau, Alvis Lo Iek Long, admitted that the new hospital might be managed by a private institution but will always be public.
The Macao government broadcaster said that the negotiations are continuing with Peking Union Medical College Hospital which was founded in 1921 by the Rockefeller Foundation and is affiliated with Peking Union Medical College and the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
Construction of the hospital, which will include a nursing institute, laboratory and residential quarters, is expected to cost MOP 9.8 billion and might be completed by 2024.
According to the Health Bureau, the new hospital will have around 1,100 beds and facilities specialising in nuclear medicine, a radiotherapy centre and a transplant centre.
The future Seac Pai Van Light Rail Train will also include a stop at the future Cotai hospital.
The only public hospital in Macao is currently the Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre, located on the peninsula.
