A total of 562 illegal money changers were arrested last month, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement on Friday.
The arrests are the result of 208 raids on illegal currency exchange activities, according to the statement.
The 562 illegal money changers have meanwhile been deported to the mainland, and 407of them have been banned from entering Macau for a period of time.
Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak told the media last month that Macau’s various police forces are paying close attention to illegal currency exchange activities in, and on the fringes of local casinos.
According to police statistics, 545 illegal money changers were caught in 246 raids in January – 411 of them were banned from entering Macau for a period of time.
Last year, 3,050 illegal money changers were arrested, 2,269 of whom were given temporary entry bans.
