Macao welcomed almost 304,000 visitor arrivals during the initial two days of the National Day holiday, which runs from 1 to 7 October in mainland China and is dubbed “golden week.”

According to Public Security Police (PSP) data cited by local media, 139,854 tourists entered Macao on 1 October, with most making their way into the city via the Border Gate (63,548), Hengqin Port (28,047) and the Macao Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (20,796). A total of 673,778 inbound and outbound crossings were made via the SAR’s various checkpoints.

Provisional data from Macao’s tourism office shows that mainland travellers accounted for the bulk of visitor arrivals on the first day, with their numbers reaching around 117,000 – up 1.6 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, approximately 14,000 Hongkongers journeyed to the SAR on 1 October, a decline of 0.3 percent in comparison to the same period last year.

On the second day, 163,932 visitors travelled to Macao, with the Border Gate attracting 79,020 travellers. Other popular crossings included the Hengqin Port and the HZMB, which logged visitor arrival figures of 32,942 and 21,653 people. In total, second day crossings, inbound and outbound, reached 735,479.

In the coming days, Macao is expected to welcome an even greater number of visitors. Last week, the PSP told reporters that “golden week” visitor arrivals would reach a peak on 3 and 4 October.

Overall, around 1.2 million visitors are tipped to enter Macao during the 8-day break – a figure that averages to roughly 150,000 tourists per day.

The PSP also announced that Macao’s 2025 visitor arrivals had broken the 30-million mark at 11 pm yesterday, a full 40 days earlier than the year before.

The current milestone represents an increase of 14.5 percent year-on-year and is on par with the figure recorded during the same period in 2019, bringing Macao one step closer to achieving its goal of 39 million visitors in 2025. It is also equivalent to an average of around 108,000 visitor arrivals per day.

Of the 30 million visitors that entered Macao this year, around 72.8 percent of them were from the mainland. Hong Kong and Taiwan accounted for 18.4 percent and 2.4 percent of the total, while overseas travellers made up 6.4 percent.
