Sands Chairman and CEO Sheldon G. Adelson and his wife Miriam have been saddened by the passing of Macao gaming magnate Dr. Stanley Ho Hung Sun last week, according to a statement issued by the US casino mogul from his company’s corporate headquarters in Las Vegas.
“My wife, Miriam, and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Stanley Ho. Our sympathies are with all who mourn his loss. He had a tremendous life which I’m sure will be celebrated by his family and those who knew him best,” says the undated statement received by the Macau Post Daily today.
“While Dr. Ho and I were strong business competitors, I respected his accomplishments. Our stories are similar in many ways. Both Dr. Ho and I came from very humble beginnings, started our own businesses, and found levels of success unmatched by most,” the statement points out.
“We also shared a similar philosophy toward Macao and our employees there. From the moment the Sands Macao opened in 2004, I made it a priority to support our Team Members in every way possible. I know Dr. Ho was passionate about his employees as well,” the statement underlines.
“Over the years, I have seen many references to Dr. Ho’s charitable giving. Again, an area where we shared similar views. My wife and I like to say it ‘feels good to do good.’ It certainly seemed to me that Dr. Ho shared that opinion and there are are many reminders in Macao of his generosity.
“Dr. Ho led a fulfilling life and left a remarkable legacy – a legacy which will not soon be forgotten,” the statement concludes.
Dr. Ho passed away in Hong Kong last Tuesday, aged 98.
Adelson was born in Boston on August 4, 1933.
