Visitor arrivals totalled 2,274,050 in April 2023, according to the latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC). The figure represents a rise of 16.2% month-on-month.
There were marginally more overnight visitors (1,176,456) than same-day visitors (1,097,594) but the average length of stay for overnight visitors was just 2.2 days – 1.4 days shorter than the same month last year.
Mainland China remains the greatest source of travellers, responsible for 1,386,944 of all arrivals. More than 44 percent of those came from the Greater Bay Area, especially Zhuhai (157,188) and Guangzhou (126,222). Macao’s second biggest market in the month was Hong Kong (745,282) followed by Taiwan (33,295).

Most visitors arrived via land crossings at the Border Gate (764,886), Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (727,703) and Hengqin port (210,672). There were 340,831 arrivals by sea and just 153,231 by air.
The DSEC recently released figures showing that overnight visitors to Macao pumped more than 12.3 billion patacas into the local economy in the first three months of this year – excluding gaming expenditure.
Same-day visitors spent more than 2.6 billion patacas during the same period, the bureau said.
