Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) student, Wong Weng Ian helped Macao win its second gold medal by coming out on top in a wushu event at the inaugural Student (Youth) Games yesterday.
She took part in the university division of the women’s optional qiang (spear) competition and bagged gold with a score of 9.663 – a difference of just 0.003 compared to the runner-up from Jiangxi province.
In an interview with TDM after the event, Wong said, “I think I performed very well.”
She added: “This competition was preparation or a test for myself for the (upcoming) World Championships. I didn’t think too much about it. My hope was simply to bring out what I had practised into my performance”

Overall, the ten-day sports competition features more than 20,000 participants who are taking part in 57 competitions that are held in a host of venues across Guangxi.
