WTT Macao 2020, organised by the local Sports Bureau (ID) and World Table Tennis (WTT) in conjunction with the Macau Table Tennis General Association, will be held at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion this month, the organisers said at a press conference on Wednesday.

The competition will be held on 25-29 November.

WTT Macao 2020 is the first event to be held by WTT since its inception by the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) this year. Men’s and women’s singles will be held, featuring many of the world’s top 16 players including Fan Zhendong, Xu Xin, Ma Long, Lin Gaoyuau, Liu Shiwen, Wang Manyu, Wang Chuqin and Wang Yidi from the mainland, Lin Yun-Ju from Taiwan, Jeoung Young-sik and Jeon Ji-hee from South Korea, Feng Tianwei from Singapore, Diaz Adriana from Puerto Rico, Szocs Bernadette from Romania, and Ahmed Saleh from Egypt.

Innovative formats with new scoring methods will be adopted in different stages, including the unprecedented best-of-nine format in the final, bringing a fast-paced and thoroughly exciting competition for spectators, the organisers said.

The players and officials will be required to stay in the mainland for over 14 days and must show a valid negative nucleic acid test (NAT) result before being granted permission to enter Macao. During the competition, they must also comply with the local Health Bureau’s (SSM) anti-COVID-19 guidelines and regulations.
