Sailors from around the world will converge in northeastern China next month for the first-ever international race from Qingdao to Macao.
Covering 1,200 nautical miles and stretching over 20 days, the route of the Wynn Cup Qingdao-Macao International Offshore Race 2021 will take in Xiamen, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.
Themed “Sail to Celebrate 100 Years of Youth and Progress”, and under the slogan “Vitality, Fashion, Openness, Unity”, the race will embrace a series of events for exchanges in the sports, leisure, culture, trade and business sectors, The Macau Post Daily reported.
The race is being hailed as an important international sports event since Macao’s official maritime area has been extended by the central government to 85 square kilometres, and this is the first time that Qingdao – which was the venue for the sailing programme at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games – and Macao have worked together on a 20-day-water sports event that takes in three special economic zones. The race will be held from 10-30 May.
