The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) said in a statement on Wednesday that the Cinematheque•Passion located in Travessa da Paixão will reopen on 1 September.
The cinema has been temporarily closed for maintenance and renovation since July, according to the statement. The statement said that the façade, interior walls, stairs, drainage pipes were under renovation and the internal equipment was being repaired, adding that “a comprehensive cleaning and disinfection was carried out in the facilities” due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The statement said that in order to stem the spread of COVID-19, “the screenings and activities of the Cinematheque•Passion will be arranged in accordance with the relevant guidelines of the Health Bureau. All visitors to the Cinematheque•Passion must wear facemasks, undergo temperature checks and present their Health Code”.
People who are interested in catching a show in the cinema can check the screening times on the cinema’s website www.cinematheque-passion.mo. As of yesterday, the website did not yet indicate which film will be screened on Tuesday, 1 September.
The cinema will restart after a change in management following a public tender for its service provider. The previous operators lost the tender as they submitted the highest bid. The new operators are still little known among local film buffs.
