The government has scrapped the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre, marking a major milestone in Macao’s emergence from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The announcement was made in the latest Official Gazette.
The SMS enquiry service (6333 7492) and online platform run by the centre have ceased operation. However, the Health Bureau will take over management of the Covid-19 telephone hotline (2870 0800), while the Center for Disease Control and Prevention will handle questions about Covid sent by email to [email protected].
Information about Covid-19 will continue to be published on the Health Bureau’s anti-epidemic webpage.
The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre was set up on 21 January 2020, to coordinate the public and private sector response to the coronavirus. Macao confirmed its first Covid-19 case a day later.
The city continues to be affected by milder Omicron XBB subvariants of coronavirus. There were 539 infections recorded from 8 to 14 September, according to the latest data, but only 3 cases required admission to hospital.
