Unemployment in Macao fell slightly to 2.8 percent from February to April, down 0.3 percent from the three months from January to March, according to the latest figures from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The DSEC said that total employment was 360,700 and the number of employed residents totalled 282,200, up by 1,400 and 1,000 respectively from the previous period.
The number of unemployment in Macao dropped by 1,000 from the previous period to 10,500, while the proportion of new labour market entrants seeking their first job decreased by 2.9 percentage points to 3.9 percent of the total unemployed.

The gaming, hospitality and restaurant trades saw the biggest increases in employment, the DSEC said.
The figures come in the wake of a survey earlier this month that showed workers in Macao having more confidence in the job market than they did in 2022, but still not as much as they did in 2019 – the last year before the Covid-19 pandemic.
Commenting on the survey at the time, Prof. Sun Liyun from the MUST School of Business told a news conference that the negative impact of the pandemic on the employment market was still being felt.
