Hotel guests rise 5.3 pct in Jan-Feb

Macau’s 117 hotels and guesthouses recorded 2.33 million guests in the first two months of the year, an increase of 5.3 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

Macau’s 117 hotels and guesthouses recorded 2.33 million guests in the first two months of the year, an increase of 5.3 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a DSEC statement on Friday, the average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses rose by 1.8 percentage points to 92.4 percent in the two-month period which included the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday.

Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.5 percent night compared with the same period of last year.

The total number of guest rooms grew by 1 percent year-on-year to 39,000 at the end of February, with 5-star hotel guest rooms rising by 3 percent to 24,000, or 63 percent of Macau’s total number of guest rooms.

A total of 1.08 million guests were recorded in February, up 5 percent year-on-year. Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 70.5 percent and 10.2 percent of all guests in February, up 4.6 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.

While the number of guests from South Korea jumped by 23.4 percent to 47,000 in February, the number of guests from Taiwan dropped by 10.6 percent.(Macaunews)
