The W Macau hotel at Cotai’s Studio City resort has been voted as one of the world’s most beautiful hotels in 2024 by judges of the Prix Versailles, an architectural and design prize that is affiliated with UNESCO.

According to a statement released by Melco last Friday, W Macau is the second property belonging to the gaming concessionaire to have earned the award, after the Morpheus hotel at the City of Dreams won the title in 2023

Much like Morpheus, the W hotel was designed by the internationally renowned firm Zaha Hadid Architects. The 40-floor property, which opened its doors in September 2023, has 557 guest rooms and suites, as well as various facilities, including a gym, indoor pool and a bar on the top floor.

The Prix Versailles described the W Hotel as a property that “lovingly explores the culture of Macao, celebrating with its architecture and design the finery that marked the destination’s arrival on the global stage.”

In response to the award, the chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Lawrence Ho said, “The prizes underline Melco’s dedication to creating iconic and culturally significant landmarks.”

A total of 16 hotels from 14 different countries were featured on the Prix Versailles’ world’s most beautiful hotels list 2024. Some of the other awardees included Vermelho in Melides, Portugal; Manly Pacific in Sydney Australia, The Hanok Heritage House in Yeongwol, South Korea and The Ned Doha in Doha, Qatar.

The Prix Versailles was first awarded in 2015 and is given to buildings that have “exceptional architecture and intelligent sustainability.”

Official data indicates that the US has the most number of world titles between 2017 and 2023, with a total of 19. This was closely followed by China’s 17, as well as Australia and France, which were tied for third place with 9 awards.
