At a glance:

  • Connected to the Central Embassy mall and with easy access to Bangkok’s BTS train system
  • Tasteful Thai elements woven into 222 modern rooms, including 32 suites
  • Rooms start at 48 square metres, making them some of the largest in Bangkok
  • A 131-foot infinity pool on the ninth floor boasts breathtaking skyline views
  • Le Labo amenities in the rooms

Set the scene for me

Sure. The property takes up the upper floors of one of the city’s most iconic buildings, the Central Embassy, and does so in a luxe but laidback way.

Stroll through the sunlit corridors, and you’ll find a mix of Thai and international art, with some chunky installations like Naga by Japanese artist Hirotoshi Sawada, gloriously dangling above the Living Room lounge on the 9th floor. As you make your way from reception to the lifts, you’re greeted by Meditation, a zen-like statue by Nonthivathn Chandhanaphalin, one of Thailand’s foremost modern sculptors. And there’s much more to explore if you’re up for an artistic immersion during your stay.

So it’s a place for art buffs then?

Culture vultures will feel right at home, with the opportunity to book an art tour and immerse themselves in this creative pocket in the city’s business district. But overall, the hotel offers a refined “home away from home” experience, mixing luxury with an intimate, residential feel. So it will appeal to anyone – business or leisure traveller – who appreciates discreet elegance, maximum convenience, and top-notch service.

What about the rooms, though? Top notch as well?

At 55 square meters, our king bed deluxe room immediately impressed us with its spacious layout and modern design. A walk-in closet and powder room are right at the entrance, and beyond it, a chic wooden bar-cabinet holds refreshments and a Nespresso machine, perfectly stationed beside a well-equipped work area.

Natural sunlight floods the room through floor-to-ceiling windows, enriching the room’s soothing soft cream and taupe tones. The wall panels, featuring Thai landmark motifs, nod to the property’s roots.

The marble bathroom matches the rest of the hotel in attention to detail, featuring a large bathtub where you can enjoy stunning city views as you go from day to play. Le Labo skincare products from New York elevate the experience.

Nice. What are the facilities like?

The hotel’s stunning infinity pool on the 9th floor is a must-visit, ideal for a refreshing dip at sunset or just kicking back and soaking up the stunning skyline views.

For some well-deserved relaxation, head to the spa – operated by the eco-friendly Panpuri Organic Spa – or break a sweat at the 24-hour fitness center with a view overlooking the pool.

It sounds like you could spend a lot of time here and not really want to leave

You won’t need to, at least not to eat well. The Penthouse destinations truly take the cake (or steak), unfolding over the 34th, 35th, and 36th floors, providing everything you need for a fantastic night in.

At Penthouse Grill, the meal was as impressive as the venue. Caesar salad prepped tableside and a French onion soup awakened our taste buds, followed by an exquisite selection of steaks grilled over parrilla charcoal, the Argentine way.

Afterward, we sipped on signature cocktails at the Penthouse Cocktail Bar while enjoying live jazz, then made our way up to the rooftop for a nightcap from the comfort of an outdoor bed. What’s a Bangkok night without a rooftop hang?

For daytime dining, you’ll find a delightful breakfast brimming with Eastern and Thai specialities at Living Room, and there’s a very good Mediterranean lunch available poolside.

I might decamp to this place for Lunar New Year. What do you think?

You can’t go wrong. In a city where the streets are alive with tempting treats and vibrant sights, Park Hyatt Bangkok is the kind of hideaway that wraps you in unscripted service and minimalist luxury. With art-filled spaces, contemporary rooms, and an infinity pool that’s just begging for a sunset dip, it’s the perfect escape from the Bangkok craze – while still being right in the heart of it all.
