Gaming operator SJM said in a statement Wednesday that it was saddened by the news of the passing away of fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, saying that the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel at its under-construction Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai will be a legacy to the couturier’s creative genius.
The German designer, who lived most of his life in Paris and was the creative director for Chanel and Fendi during his long career, died in Paris on Tuesday morning (local time). He was 85.
The SJM statement, sent out by its Grand Lisboa Palace team, said that it was offering its heartfelt condolences to Lagerfeld’s family and friends.
“Our thoughts are with them and with all those in the design world to whom he was such an inspiration,” the statement said, adding, “It has been an honour for SJM to work with him, and we look forward to completing the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel at the Grand Lisboa Palace in Macau as a legacy to his creative genius.”
The Grand Lisboa Palace will reportedly open in the second half of this year.
