A total of 18,620 visitors streamed over the border from Zhuhai on Saturday – the most on a single day since the resumption of quarantine-free travel between Zhuhai and Macao in early August.

According to the Macao Government Tourism Office, Macao recorded more than 100,000 visitor arrivals from 20 August through Saturday, with a daily average of 14,737, indicating an increase of 18 per cent compared to the daily average of 12,485 visitors between 13-19 August, and a growth of 4,578 per cent compared to the daily average of 315 visitor arrivals last month.

The last time arrivals were unaffected by Covid-19 was January 2020 when Macao received 2.8 million visitors, quickly dropping to 156,394 in February. This July, Macao suffered its fewest visitors (9,759) since 2008 due to the 18 June virus outbreak, which brought the city to a standstill for weeks on end.
