Hotel guests rise 1.7% to 11.7 million in Jan-Oct

Some 11.7 million guests checked into Macau’s 121 hotels and guesthouses in the first 10 months of the year, a year-on-year growth of 1.7 per cent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.

According to a DSEC statement on Friday, guest rooms’ average occupancy rate edged up by 0.2 percentage points to 90.6 per cent. Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.5 nights.

The number of guests rooms available in October dipped by 0.6 per cent year-on-year to 38,000, of which 4-star hotel rooms dropped by 8.2 per cent to 7,100, while 5-star hotel rooms rose by 0.6 per cent to 25,000.

A total of 1.17 million guests checked into hotels and guesthouses in October, up by 2.3 per cent year-on-year. Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 69.2 per cent and 12.2 per cent of all hotel guests. While the number of mainland guests remained virtually unchanged, the number of guests from Hong Kong rose by 25.6 per cent year-on-year. The number of Taiwan guests increased by 11.7 per cent to 39,000 in October.

According to the Macau Post Daily, South Koreans continued to be the sector’s number-one foreign guest segment, rising by 16.6 per cent to 41,000.
