Hotel guests in Sept rise 6 pct to 1.1 million

Macau’s 116 hotels and guesthouses recorded 1.1 million guests in September, a 6 pct increase year on year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.

Macau’s 116 hotels and guesthouses recorded 1.1 million guests in September, a 6 pct increase year on year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said.

Mainlanders and Hongkongers accounted for 69 percent and 11 percent of all guests respectively.

While guests from the mainland and Hong Kong rose 8.1 percent and 12.3 percent respectively, those from Taiwan (41,000) and South Korea (40,000) dropped by 3.3 percent and 2.9 percent respectively. South Koreans continued to be the hotel sector’s number-one foreign guest segment.

Guests’ average length of stay remained unchanged at 1.5 nights.

The average occupancy rate of hotels and guesthouses increased by 0.3 percentage points to 86.8 percent, with 5-star hotels recording a rate of 88.5 percent, up by 1.6 percentage points.

In the first nine months of the year, guests at hotels and guesthouses rose by 7.8 percent to 10.48 million.

The number of guest rooms grew by 5.5 percent to 39,000 at the end of September, with 5-star hotel rooms increasing by 10 percent to 25,000, accounting for 63.1 percent of the total.
