The registration for government-issued consumption promotion smartcards ended on Wednesday, with over 658,000 residents registering, the Macau Monetary Authority (AMCM) and Economic Services Bureau (DSE) jointly announced in a statement on Friday.

The government urged the registrants to take their Macau IDs when they collect their smartcards at the time and venue as per their registration, in order to avoid crowding, the statement noted.

The government has repeatedly urged residents to avoid crowds during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The AMCM will send an SMS to each registrant one day prior to his or her date of card collection, according to the statement, so that registrants can double check the time and venue for their earlier registrations on AMCM’s website.

Smartcards are collectable on behalf of others. However, minors’ smartcards must be collected by their parent or guardian, the statement underlined.

People who collect smartcards on behalf of others must take their own original ID and the original ID of the registrant, as well as a letter of authorisation signed by the registrant, the statement noted.

According to the statement, the letter of authorisation can be downloaded from: https://www.economia.gov.mo/consumo/

According to government announcement on Wednesday, in addition to the first-round 3,000-pataca government-issued smart cards, the government will issue the second phase of its consumption subsidy scheme with a 5,000-pataca top-up. The cards will be the same in both rounds of the consumption promotion campaign.

Both permanent and non-permanent residents are entitled to participate in the consumption smartcard scheme. The cards cannot be used for spending on gambling and betting activities.

The 3,000-pataca smartcard is to be used between next month and July, while the 5,000 pataca top-up must be spent between August and December. More details will be announced shortly, the announcement said.
