Macao’s weather station has lowered the Typhoon Signal No. 8 to Strong Wind Signal No. 3 at 5:30 pm today, after Typhoon Kompasu made landfall in Hainan province at 4 pm.

The Civil Protection Operations Centre recorded nine minor incidents during the hoisting of Signal No. 8.

Public bus transport was to be resumed gradually. The city’s four emergency shelters for those who sought shelter from the typhoon were closed at 5:30 pm. A total of 16 flights were delayed by the typhoon, Macao’s Civil Aviation Authority (AACM) announced.

In Hong Kong, Strong Wind Signal No. 3 took effect at 4:40 pm, replacing Typhoon Signal No. 8 that had been in force for almost 24 hours as the storm moved farther away from Hong Kong towards Hainan.
