Macau will impose a 14-day quarantine, starting on Tuesday, for those who “have been to Germany, France, Spain or Japan within the past 14 days prior to their entry” into the territory, it was announced today.
Macau residents must undergo the medical observation at a domestic venue deemed appropriate by the health authorities, whereas non-Macau residents will be placed at a designated hotel at their own expenses. This is in accordance with the stipulation of Article 10 of Law no. 2/2004 – “Law on the Prevention, Control and Treatment of Infectious Diseases”.
Until then and as of 12:00 pm Sunday, the Health Bureau has announced that individuals who have travelled to the aforementioned countries must submit to medical examination upon entering the city, in accordance with the same law.
This measure is already in force for people from South Korea (since February 26), Italy and Iran (February 29).
There have been no new cases of COVID-19 over the last 33 days. Macau registered 10 cases of infected patients but all of them have already been discharged.
The COVID-19 outbreak, detected in China in late December has already claimed more than 3,500 lives and more than 105,000 people have been infected in at least 95 countries. Based on the worldwide number of infected, the fatality rate is 3.4 percent, with the majority having recovered to date.
