Macau, China, 15 Nov – Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao left Macau for Zhuhai Sunday evening, ending his first official visit to the Macau Special Administrative Region.

During his two-day tour, Wen attended the opening ceremony of the third Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries.

"Since returning to the motherland, Macau has undertaken big changes with sound economic and social development" , said Wen to the press before his departure.

For the first time Hong Kong and Macau have been included as an important part of the 12th Five-Year Program of the country, said Wen.

In order to become a global tourism and leisure center, Macau should put emphasis on its economic connection to the mainland and communication and cooperation with the outside world, Wen told the press.

To achieve such a goal, Wen also suggested the Macau government to value small-sized enterprises, and boost the development in the industries of culture, education and science and technology.

On Sunday, speaking to government officials, Chinese Premier also said that appropriate diversity should be promoted in economic development in the Macauo Special Administrative Region.

Wen said Macau should work to develop modern service industries, including tourism, exhibition, finance and cultural creativity, make sure gaming industry develop in an appropriate and orderly way, and strive to build up Macau as the world tourism and leisure center.

To enhance people’s living standards, the Macau government should put more public expenditure on livelihood field, speed up public house construction, and care for vulnerable groups, Wen added.
