The China Media Group (CMG), China’s major broadcaster, launched its Asia-Pacific branch and the bureaus of Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions on Saturday in the two cities via “cloud links.”

Shen Haixiong, president of the CMG, said in Macao at the launch ceremony that the CMG, relying on its Asia-Pacific branch, would serve as a bridge linking China and its Asia-Pacific neighbours, and the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large.

The broadcaster would take full advantage of the unique features of Hong Kong and Macao, where Eastern and Western civilisations blend, to tell stories of exchanges and mutual learning between civilisations, of multilateralism and free trade, and of pursuing common prosperity and development by different countries and regions, he said.

The CMG also launched the shooting of a 4K ultra-high-definition documentary film aiming to record the rich culinary culture of Macao, a UNESCO-designated Creative City of Gastronomy.

The Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng, attended a signing ceremony for a framework agreement on deepening strategic co-operation between the China Media Group and the Macao government and a ceremony to mark the beginning of the shooting of documentary television series titled “Aerial China, Macao”.

During the ceremony, Ho Iat Seng said the cooperation with the CMG will contribute to the integration of Macao in Mainland China development.

The agreement will cover cooperation in news, sports activities, soap operas, documentaries, ad documentaries.

Under the agreement, the first project to be done is a 4K “Aerial China Macau” documentary.

Inaugurated in April 2018 as part of China’s wide-ranging institutional reshuffle, the CMG is a new broadcasting platform made up of the China Central Television, the China National Radio and the China Radio International.
